I lost audio with you so after a couple of minutes, I went for a test drive.
WOW!!! Fells like a different engine!

Cheers,

Hi Edward,

In short, the engine feels a LOT different! There is more torque down low (where I need it) and the engine is more responsive to throttle inputs. It is what I thought the car should have been to begin with! I checked fuel mileage yesterday (actual) and it was 20.25MPG. Not good but I drove the car a bit harder than ‘usual’ and had the 2nd gear pull in there as well. Engine revs did not exceed about 4000 (except for the pull). Checked the actual mileage again today after a normal commute to work and back and it returned 25.96MPG in Sport mode. Not bad! Again, engine not exceeding about 4000RPM.

Cheers,

Jim

Hi Edward,

After 3 days of driving the car, another difference is that when the gearbox is in normal mode, and accelerating under light throttle, upshifts occur at less than 2000RPM. This is a lower RPM than before the V0 tune. This NOT a complaint, just an observation. With the added torque down low after the V0 tune, the engine STILL responds better at this low RPM than it did before. This is a good thing!
Unlike our Alfa Romeo whose engine rarely goes below 4000RPM when moving, I drive the Subaru the opposite; the engine doesn’t see much above 4000RPM. I see the Outback as a fun commute/utility vehicle, not as a sports car so that’s how I drive it. Reasonably good power (V0 made a big improvement) and good fuel economy.

All I can say for now is that the engine feels GREAT! The low end is FAR better than stock. And on about half throttle in 1st gear Sport mode, it felt like the engine came ‘on cam’ about 4000RPM. It simply took off!!  Mileage increased from yesterday’s 22.35 to 25.76

Good morning!
Well, it’s been a heck of a time these past 3 weeks including this past week with no emails or internet.
The car runs fantastic! Starts instantly and idles perfectly both cold and hot. Much, much improved low end power which, rarely going much over 3k RPM now, is where I need it. Light throttle upshifts occur at a low 2000 (approx) RPM which I think (if memory serves) is lower than the stock tune. This is NOT an issue mind you; just an observation. Doesn’t matter either because of the increase in low end power. And it may contribute to better MPG.
Speaking of MPG, the first full tank with the V3 tune netted 24.81. Not bad! The 2nd tank was low at 23.44 BUT every year around this time I use the 7 or so gallons of stabilized fuel I store for the generator, lawn mower, snow blower, etc. The 3rd tank, having just filled up yesterday, yielded the best mileage I’ve gotten with the car since we bought it this past August; 25.84 MPG. And this was with ambient temps, on a few mornings, being a bit below 0C! All 3 tanks were run the same; to and from work on the same roads and at the same speeds. About 2/3 of my commute is on the highway at 75-80 MPH (just under 3000 RPM).

Cheers,
