traildogck:

I had "little B" last night but couldn't help myself. I flashed the v0 ROM from XRT. It always scare me after a flash. They ignition always takes 2-3 cycle/hits to fire up. You just keep thinking "she's bricked"

I took her back to her Mom's for their day....let me tell you, 2 things
  1. Stock Su*ks
  2. Today my (XRT) actually scared me.
Whoh!! Buddy!! There is mixed snow and rain falling. The Conti EC DWS, this is their performance nitche'. Well, I didn't even really push her. 69%throttle was what I pushed (by the logs...so cool). But XRT wanted to break loose and she lurched a bit sideways toward the other lane, no AWD blinker, tho

Does any think I am happy???:jump: You Bet! I used to have to push the XT pretty hard to expose the OB/Gen3 chassis issues. Given all of the counter measures I have in place. Now, it is easy to see that XRT will expose them easily. Those weaknesses will need to be further dealt with. Brake upgrade is going to need to go beyond pad/rotor upgrades. I think I am gonna need to see Grimspeed and start looking for some 4pots.

I just got my 1st round tune from XRT, for my XT (now lovingly being tagged...XRT).
traildogck:
I am SO, so happy. Not the car...we can get to that later. I can't say enough about XRT tuning. I tried to run this tune on the cheap I guess. I have been logging, like a child with the cheap VagCom cable. I got on board with XRT, and then we hit a brick wall with the Vagcom. Ed, @XRT was very patient and diplomatic with my struggles. he should have said, get the cable...then we'll talk. Instead, he held my hand until I figured it out for myself...I should have received a "dope slap".

What I have received is outstanding communication and service. 2 things rarely seen in business today. Outstanding XRT
http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/109 ... ost1628705
XRT is tenacious and ridiculous on service...Ed is literally chompin' at the bit for new meat to chew on...

Rasterman....it the best $$$ I ever spent on my X"R"T, IMPO...

I have lurked over here for a little while, I finally joined up. I have been active over on the the Outback for a couple years. I found out about this site from those folks. Most of the time trying to drive me away. I also now realize that my car is more LGT than OB.

I have worked with Ed / XRT Tuning for going on 2 years. The work that we have done has been broad and over several builds. My XT started out bone stock. Combined the power and cooling, with all of the other chassis modifications...I now like to call the car/her.... Frank. Tha'st short for FrankenWagon, and she's a girl...in case any were wondering. XRT tuning has been there almost every step of the way with the car.

And by far...as far as money spent...XRT Tuning is the best value of anything on my car. And I have some valuable sh*t bolted on to it.

My car has the 5EAT. Even with nothing more than an initial throttle map and 5EAT programming, the personality of the car was changed right away...I was getting some throttle logs and the pavement was a bit wet. When my stock (at the time) turbo kicked in...Frank leaped...forward andsideways as all 4 tried/did break loose for a moment...that was in second gear. Whoh!

Since, in the past year and a 1/2 I have worked regularly with XRT Tuning. I am not all that into You-Tube and whatnot, so I have no shifting videos or anything. Many others do, and it is really quite unbelievable the difference in programming on the AT. For Me though I found some of the additional services that XRT provides to be even more beneficial. We are finishing up a Stage3-ish tune currently. (If I can ever get Frank to be solid...on me, not XRT) Truthfully at least 1/2 of the work I have done with XRT has been diagnostic and repair support.

Tuning work aside, the diagnostic support has been even more valuable to me as I struggled to continue forward an make my car dream a reality. Frank is one of a kind, and still growing. XRT Tuning may as well be sponsor, Ed has been integral.

Do yourself a favor, Turbo MT, or ANY...motor 5EAT...(I think 4EAT as well), contact XRT Tuning. It will be worth your time.

I don't have any videos so, I am posting here. Frank has been relatively solid and trustworthy for the last few hundred miles...that's a big deal for Frank. I have finally been able to live with the new 5EAT race programming, I think Ed called it.

It is nearly faultless. Meaning I have to try to fault it. The gears now hold into a much higher rpm...IF I keep the throttle even/constant...like to redline...if I want. Or, I can modulate the pedal too...smoothly upshift. Gone is the clunks and slams...that used to happen when it got a bit confused.

And this is in comparison to the previous tune...which was already XRT modified and way better than stock.

I would challenge any 3rd pedal rower to do as aggressive, efficient and smooth clutch operation...as what I have in XRT 5EAT.

Got my version 0.0 Xtreme Racing Tuning tune logged and loaded an hour ago, and man is it a nice difference so far !
Shifts firmer sooner and smoother ! and the lock up seems to engage much sooner :-)
also my engine light (due to no cat) was turned off
so far this is way better than the cobb stage 2 off the shelf and we are just getting started. much props to ED at XTR ill keep you guys updated on my coming versions as well as 0-60 comparisons of XTR vs Cobb vs Stock

car is an 05 outback 2.5xt with tsudo up pipe, Invidia turbo back w a random technology high flow cat, a cobb sf intake w box, and perin inlet hose

Wow Got my V3.0 Loaded and just raced my buddys Stage 2 02 WRX, and it was ridiculous! even without power braking it i had him by 5 car lengths before we hit 50mph. it looked like he wasn't even trying! Edward your tunes are Insane

it is so perfect now feels like a much lighter car, the passing gear kicks in at the perfect time for highway. its a very tame and capable machine in Drive, And when you put it in Sport it is crazy it revs the gears out in a way i could never imagine all while only giving it 1/3 Throttle. the manual shifting is almost instant now as apposed to the sec delay when stock, It also fels like i am more conected to the wheels all of that mushy feeling you get when you rev a 5eat is gone its truly feels like a stick now and is a blast to drive in any mode :-)

also Edward was able to Diagnose bad plugs from my V1 logs that i have since replaced. the car was just at a Subaru Specialist Shop for a replacement engine and even they overlooked that in person !

this is truly worlds ahead of the Cobb tune i had previously

I'm not very tech savy and He has been able to remotely load my tunes over the internet. all i had to do was turn on the key and hook up the wires under the dash

on more amazing fact is that my Cobb tune was running well over 16psi with creep up into the 18's . i have seen graphs of my logs and im only running 14-15 psi now with very slight creep up to 16. that is just nutz that he is getting way more response and power with considerably less Boost

In closing if you don't already have an XRT tune, Stop saving for any other mods and pony up for an Xtreme Racing Tune, esp if you have the 5EAT !

Hello every one Update on my xrt tune as quoted above, from my end the car has felt great from V0.0 all the way to V6.0 each tune has been better than the last. Edward was able to diagnose mechanical problems better than the shop that just did my replacement engine. he had initialy told me to check for pre turbo exhaust leaks, and bad plugs, because the logs were suspect. I initialy replaced the plugs , and they were very bad, he was spot on there. i then recieved my V4 and Edward was still seeing a bit of ping so he insisted i re check the exhaust, I found a masive leak at the header to uppipe gasket. it was missing a 3rd of the gasket. after fixing this leak the car was running very strange i was even hitting fuel cut ! its hard to believe he was tuning around a leak that big and still getting great response and power! I let him know and he had me a new Rom ready for me in less than an hour, which was amazing cause i had to drive it for work. The V5 after the leak fix was incredible ! it spools so much faster now, I got my V6 loaded this afternoon and it is right on the money. So very happy with the services at XRT, ive already got a buddy with a WRX headed his way for Edward to work his magic. truth is he will need it to keep up with me these days :-)

also guys an added bonus Edward has a line on custom Turbochargers that will Maximize the potential of these engines with zero negative effects, ibeleive they are almost 20g equivalent but spool faster than vf40, they are very affordable, and can even be used on a bone stock engine no mods besides turbo and tune not even injectors

so folks in closing from Mild to Wild XRT is where its at ! i will deff be back for more as my mod list gets bigger and wouldn't dream of letting anyone else touch my ROM

Thank you Edward Thank you Very much

Wow just tested my 0-60 after loading V7.0 and it is unreal 5.2 seconds !!!!!
with the same setup and a Cobb stage 2 tune it was 5.76 seconds
thats a full half sec faster to 60

for an Auto with a small vf40 i am quite impressed
best mod ever!

hey guys just wanted to check in and let you guys know i'm still loving my xrt tune, i even took it to a very prestigious trans shop, Meenan transmittion where i used to work and had my old boss drive it. he owns an 05 legacy gt with stage 2 parts a dyno tune and a transgo shift kit, he uses his LGT as an sca race car for driving instrucing. he very much aprooved ! and had a blast ripping it around, he said it pulled just about as hard as his an that the DBW tune was a great improvement over stock feel, both the pedal feel as well as the way the trans shifted, he said it wasn't quite as firm as a full on shift kit but reccomended both together. all and all a very worth while modification especialy when the price of a shift kit and dyno tune are way more than double the cost of Edwards service. much props to xrt, i will be back for more soon when i get some more parts installed !

ChrisK - 2006 Subaru Legacy Outback XT 2.5 5EAT - Tuning

I wanted to leave a review here for the latest work XRT and me have done together.

Review

"I have the pleasure of working with XRT on a second car, a 2005 Outback XT. My other build is a similar 2006. However, this second car has very limited engine modifications. The motor, turbo and exhaust are all stock and 130K miles old. Having worked with XRT in the past, I have a good understanding of what to expect. Living in high altitude, I was never looking for large numbers or big power. I was looking for the best drive-ability and to maximize the potential of what I do have under the hood.

Ed has certainly done just that. I am pushing stock (at sea level) power... but the car lives at 5000' . This might seem, insignificant to many, It is significant to me. The combination of the turbo and the 5EAT, is miraculous. I like to refer to both my cars a the "Perfect Traffic power Weapon". I have always enjoyed the turbo platform, however, the stock mapping leaves the enthusiast wanting more. The benefits of of working with XRT are more than just my own subjective opinion. I have 1/4 mile times to prove it. Granted they are slow, by comparison to sea level runs. However, My car ran faster than both a stock 2006 LGT, 5EAT and a 2008 SpecB 6MT. The only advantage I should have over either of those cars is XRT, and XRT clearly makes a difference.

The best part, the car feels like me. The transmission holds gears when I am on throttle, and the up-shifts are predictive. The throttle response is immediate and nearly feels like it still has a throttle cable. People are very different as are their driving styles. I expect cars are different as well. Ed understands this. I have a second near perfect match as a result. I couldn't be happier with my second perfect traffic weapon.

Great Thanks Again Ed, Best-Chris"

I came to Ed because of some strange things my 5eat transmission was doing after my car was tuned by another tuner. So far he has improved the shifting characteristics and the acceleration curve. The drive by wire delays are gone and manual mode shifting now acts like the shift lever is actually connected to the transmission.
After Ed found that I was experiencing excessive back pressure (original exhaust with 150,000 miles on it) and a partially plugged catalytic converter, I replaced the exhaust and ran a catalyst cleaner through the system. Big increase in both power and fuel economy. Looking forward to the next steps.
The acceleration on the latest rom is so fun I can't confirm current fuel economy but I was seeing 30mpg at 70mph on flat ground

Just wanted to update my XRT experience. I am very happy with my current (v4) tune. Ed and I did a lot of work to get here. When I first came to Ed I was having transmission issues - a shudder at low rpm and low load. Ed suggested after several iterations of v1 and v2 that the issue was mechanical and not programming. He suggested that I change the fluid back to Subaru atf-hp. I had Valvoline Max-life multi-vehicle atf in. Valvoline's data sheet says that it is Subaru atf-hp compatible. I did a full fluid exchange (12 quarts run through with the engine running) and immediately saw improvement. After several weeks with the Subaru atf, I am not seeing any tranny issues at all. Following Ed's recommendation, I will do another fluid exchange soon to make sure all of the old is replaced.
Ed knows his stuff. I couldn't be happier with the service or the results.
V4 has made my 08 obxt fun to drive again. Still seeing great power and 30mpg at cruise.

Ed is a incredibly great tuner to work with, he is very fast to respond and listens to your needs as a customer. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking to get more out of their vehicle in factory to highly modified form. Ed is also really good at developing a power road map for future modifications and has a good understanding of the limits of the vehicles he works on so that he can provide a tune that meets your driveability and performance needs.

Ed recently tuned my USDM 2007 Legacy GT Wagon. I was at my wits end with the lack of power and poor delivery through the 5eat transmission. I was going to sell the wagon and give up until I learned about Edward and XRT. It felt like a leap of faith that my tune would solve my poor performance and shifting issues but it was worth the chance. I could not be happier! Not only does the car produce 57whp more after the tune it shifts much faster, holds gears longer, and overall performs like this car should have from the factory. His customer service was beyond top notch with updates coming in twice a day until we were done. Thanks Edward, you saved a good car and made me a very happy customer!

Ed is nothing short of amazing. He has turned my daily from a sluggish pinging headache into a car that is a joy to drive. Before I came to Ed I was wracking my brain trying to solve mechanical problems that weren't even there. The OTS map that I was running just wasn't cutting it. Even after the first revision was flashed I could feel how much better she ran, and it only got better and better. When my TOB went on my initial 3rd gear pull and I had to take time to pull my trans, Ed was on top of the revisions the moment I was done.

I couldn't recommend Ed's services more!

Im not really sure where to begin as everything about Ed and my tuning experience with XRT has been nothing short of amazing. I was referred to him by a good buddy of mine who had him tune his Subaru and was very skeptical in the beginning as im sure many of you might be as well, but the responsiveness from Ed alone just talking about getting my car tuned pulled me in.

Ed is very thorough about going over every exact detail of your car before ever sending you the first rom. Also going over any and all concerns and details you are looking to get out of your car and tune. I told Ed before we started that i was going to be putting larger injectors in the car to maximize the potential for power increase and would need a tune just to start and move the car so i was able to get home that night. He simply responded with "let me know when you are ready" From then on i knew Ed was the man for the job. As soon as the injectors and new plugs where in Ed spent 2 hours on the phone with me dialing in the starting and idling of the car sending me rom after rom. As quickly as he could review my logs he had another rom ready for me to install and the car just kept getting smoother and smoother until it was time for the first cruise.

From then on the attention to detail Ed has for your car and his tuning is impeccable. Going over the changes he is making in each rom with me. The customer service as well is just 100% on point. Always just a message away and almost immediate with a response.

He has transformed my car into the monster I always knew it could be and we arent even done tuning yet! Still have quite a bit more to go and the car is a completely different animal than before. The throttle response is immediate and snappy, the acceleration before and through power is incredibly smooth. Zero knock anywhere throughout rpm range in any gear under any load. Every new rom Ed sends me now has noticeable gains in power and the car even sounds completely different than before. The sound of true raw efficient horsepower. The way a Subaru is supposed to sound he says.

Overall, I really cant say enough good things about my experience with Ed and XRT. From the customer service to the quality of tune, to the knowledge Ed has about tuning, he is well rounded in every point and this makes for the ultimate tuning experience. Im extremely happy with the service Ed continues to provide and i know he will do the same for you. He is very thorough and goes through every aspect of the tune and fine tunes every bit of it and the results you receive shows a testament to this.

If you are looking to maximize the capability of your vehicle, Ed is hands down the best man for the job. Look no further cause you have found the place where you want to be.
