Just found this topic :) i is conversation about my car being tuned :) Edward is just perfect to work with! I was dealing with tuners before few times, he is the best. I think for e-tune of 3.6 any AT you'll be hard pressed to find anyone better, and he tunes every other Subarus too.

I'm very happy with the way this work is going and and the gains I'm getting so far. Excellent job!

Hello fellows, i was looking for good e-tuner forever... No one seems to be responsive enough to have e-tune done for 3.6

Finally i located xtremeracingtuning.com !
Excellent guys, super fast with response, support any subaru engines, including supercharged 3.0 and 3.6 :)

They are as good as torqued performance in terms of the turn around time, but do NA engines too :) fast e-mail exchange, they also tune AT transmission response.

I'm half way through the process, AT is tuned as well as fuel maps, valve control is coming soon. Car is already head and shoulders above stock, but more to come :)

I'll post results once we a finished, a week or so. I'm at this point is slower with my logs, then they with the tunes :)
http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php ... ostcount=2
Just to pun in prospective how difficult it was to find 3.6 engine tuner... As former owner of wrx 04, wrx 09, evo X, wrx 2012 I do have some experience with 4 different popular tuners, and must say Edward (xtremeracingtuning.com) is one of the best in business :)

I'm kind of spoiled, my previous tunes were with Eric Minehart (subaru turbo tunes only) you can see feedback about him on every subaru forum he is extremely sharp guy.
But after all, i must say Edward is probably even more detail oriented and he tunes all subarus including N/A engines :)

Now, the car 2014 outback, we are in the middle of the tune, not finished yet. So far, drive by wire, fuel maps, and transmission behavior are almost done. Results of that alone, have transformed the car in quick responsive vehicle, no delays on shifts, more power and a lot better driving experience. Feels like bmw x3 now :) big power improvement is ahead, and involves valve control tuning. This will be purely power modification. Once we are finished I'll have stock flash loaded, logged and then compared with tuned.

Almost done with the tine, Edward is the best! So much attention, so many detail, accuracy! I'll be posting results in couple days :))) transmission shifts first class now :)

Just loaded the first Rom from XRT. It already shifts much smoother in auto, and much better torque in manual, auto feels prefect for a nice ride around town and manual feels great for the track. I was scared at first but wow, it was totally worth it. This was just the initial Rom I can't wait till the next update.
Edward is great, he logged into my computer and pretty much did everything, I just sat and watched.

The first thing I did when I heard about xtremeracingtuning was to try to find a negative review but I couldn't find one, all I found was more and more positive reviews.

If you live close to a good tuner then yea go there, but if you live hours from a capable tune then etuning is the only option. There are a lot of options for etune but I like the guy that's trusted world-wide (west_minist)

xrt controls the shift points indirectly. This car shifts completely differently, it's way smoother, you can hardly tell it shifts in auto and about as fast as a manual in paddle mode
http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104 ... ost1786961
Pretty much done tuning maybe a couple of little tweaks to get everything running prefect. I ran a couple dyno comparisons and it looks like we gained about 20hp on the high end with the tune but the feel is what sets it apart, it's a totally different car, very smooth and powerful at any speed. The car runs better than it did the day I bought it. I have cat back exhaust and a cold air intake and after those upgrades it felt sluggish on takeoff and it was shifting harder than stock, after the tune it runs amazing. Stock this car gets around 200 hp after the intake and exhaust I was getting 220 and after the tune I'm at 240, but those numbers are at peak. XTREMERACINGTUNING is working on getting me a dyno graph comparison for a better idea of the change across the whole rpm range. We also did a race tune on Sunoco 260 gt 100 octane race fuel, I'm still waiting on numbers but it was a beast after we adjusted for the new gas.

Just wanted to pass on a quick update - I've spent the last week or so finally having my '08 3.0R e-tuned by XRT - and WOW!!!!

I've provided a 'pre-review' of the work so far here . . . but just wanted to pass on that Edward is great to deal with, he responds to emails promptly, has a genuinely professional work ethic, and he is a genius with ECU tuning.

This is an e-tuning deal worth every penny I spent!!

This is a brief pre-review of my currently in progress work with XRT . . . I'll post the full review under this topic when the tuning is completed.

Just wanted to pass on a quick update - I've spent the last week or so finally having my '08 3.0R e-tuned by XRT - and WOW!!!!

Originally, I was looking mainly to get rid of the frustrating 'lag' in my 5EAT equipped Outback (it seems we all get extra lag from the fly-by-wire e-gas pedal, and the stock 5EAT programming doesn't help), and any performance gains I ended up with I would just going to consider a bonus . . .

Well, from the very first ROM version he supplied - the lag had completely gone, replaced with "instant" throttle response - so much so, I'm in the process of re-learning my throttle, especially when backing into a parking spot!. The car drives much better, shifts more appropriately and 'feels' quicker and faster, using my well calibrated butt-dyno!

After the second ROM update produced some unexpected engine pinging, I looked at my fuel log and realized that I currently had 89 octane fuel in the tank (the premium pump was out of service last week). Having brought this to Edwards attention, he immediately sent me a 'safer' ROM to use for the lower grade fuel, and we stopped the ROM revisions for maximum performance until I could get the tank refilled with premium.

After some consideration, I decided to ask Edward go ahead and e-tune for the 89 octane fuel I was currently running on, and when I refill with premium fuel we could continue on the performance ROM tuning for premium fuel. (I decided to do the 89 octane tuning as well, so that I was covered regardless of what fuel I was using, having both 89 and 93 octane tuned ROMs for my car. This second set of tuning for the 89 octane was at additional expense, since I was essentially having Edward do two completely separate tunes - but for me, it was worth the extra effort)

Even now, on V3-89Octane ROM, my 3.0 now feels worthy of it's "R" designation - I can't wait 'till we can get back to tuning for premium fuel!

The actual process is much easier than I was prepared for - after a slight learning curve on my part with the ROMRaider and ECUFlash software, ROM flashes are done in moments and logging is as simple as taking a nice drive.

As for XRT, Edward is absolutely great to deal with - he responds to emails promptly via email or his Blackberry, has a genuinely professional work ethic, and he is a genius with ECU tuning.

We aren't quite finished the tuning process yet, just now finalizing the 89 octane tuning, then soon on to 93 octane tuning. Final engine and performance figures, and end result reviews are yet to come, and I'll post a more thorough review here at that time - but from the very first ROM revision - this e-tuning is more than worth the cost!!!! :29:

Cheers'

Edward is great to work with. He answer his email/bbm within 5 minutes whenever i have any question concerning the tune. I am up to v2 from right now and my legacy 3.6r feels like a complete different car. I used to hate driving in manual mode due to shifting lag, but now the car shifts are crisp and almost instantly. I can now feel the car has more power especially in low end.

The price for Ed's tune is a steal because he will send you the first tune (v0) and after sending Ed a couple of logs of my 2nd gear pulls in manual mode. He will then ask you for your feedback, and continue to modified the tune (v1, v2, etc) until everything is perfect.

So far im only on V1 of my tunes and Edward has been nothing but helpful. I am a mac guy so windows 7/8 is a complete nightmare for me. He has helped me every step of the way so far with getting the programs setup and running and he has a quick turn around getting me new versions to upload.

On my 3rd revision with XRT and the car is responding very well to west_minist's changes!

v0 was already great - great idle, low/mid range torque, great transmission behavior, zero knock.
v1 improved throttle response, made it quick and crisp and added even more low/mid range torque, further timing and AVCS tweaks.
v2 (latest) is the icing on the cake. Rounded out all the changes from v0 and v1.
Smoothest power delivery, pulls great from low RPM all the way to 6.x K RPM
Nearly ideal throttle response and transmission behavior (I can't imagine it getting any better!). The car responds to throttle input like a 2015 WRX in S or S# and the transmission works very similar to it too. Holds gears, downshifts and upshifts very quickly.

More testing this weekend.

I've switched to an XRT (Xtreme Racing Tuning) tune and all I can say is WOW!
The car is now updated with both the latest stock FHI/SoA ECM and TCM stock flashes and tuned on top of these.

We're 'only' on the 2nd revision and already making great progress.
Ed has been a pleasure to work it. Extremely knowledgeable, professional, responsive with performance and log results that back it up.

Engine runs great, transmission runs great, no longer constantly tries to upshift to 5 all the time, holds lower gears, responds far far better to throttle input and delivers the torque I'd expect at low and mid-RPM.

StevenC, you're spot on with how the 5EAT can be transformed.
All thanks to Xtreme Racing Tuning. I'm impressed.
In addition:
First of! Wow! I'm not sure if you've already tweaked the TCM affecting params and table, but WOW.
The 5EAT holds gears, shifts much better. Its a night and day difference.
The engine itself seems much happier, runs better, idles better. And it seems like during the whole log IAM stayed constant at '1'. Which is great!

Quick update on XRT (Xtreme Racing Tuning) e-tune progress.

We are on the 4th, 5th revision now and the car runs better than ever!
As smooth and linear as she was in stock form with less than 100 miles on the ODO,
but of course far far stronger.

Very crisp, quick throttle response all around
Great low and mid RPM torque and power delivery in any gear
Strong high RPM and WOT pulls (she pulls hard well above 6K RPM)
Butter smooth idle
Drastically better 5EAT behavior (gear selection, holding, engine braking, shifts in auto and manual mode)
Improved sensor readings and ranges (IAM, A/F Learn and Correct, MAF voltage vs g/sec scaling: happy engine, happy ECU)
Further refined engine sound (likely as a result of AVCS, base and max knock additive and cruise timing table changes)

The tune has rounded out all the mechanical mods and even stabilized Bank1 and Bank2 AFRs, especially at idle and under CL driving... exactly where I need and want them to match.

Hats off to Ed for his work! We are almost done I bet, just refining at this point.

I'll chip in with some feedback as well.

Ed has done wonders for my EZ36D. He's been very patient, detail oriented and open throughout the whole process. Worked hand in hand with me and explained everything he did in detail.

He's not only stabilized the tune (one if not the only person who was willing to do it on my EZ36D), brought out more power (and done so consistently though-out the RPM range and both in CL/OL) but also did wonders for the 5EAT operation. The car is a pleasure to drive now, just as smooth and linear as stock but with all the benefits of the extra power enabled by the mechanical mods (intake/exhaust/etc).

He's always ready to help, always has something else to try, tweak, apply a slight revision, fine tune this or that. Its a pleasure to work with someone like this who is clearly as passionate and detail oriented as we are, who is also a car and motorsports enthusiast and who is clearly a perfectionist.

For any Subaru owners out there, from a N/A 2.5i daily driver tune through 3.0Rs/3.6Rs, LGTs, WRXs, STIs, and on to full builds with customer stand-alone engine management - I could not recommend Xtreme Racing Tuning and Ed more.

Reach out to Ed and you will NOT be disappointed.

Hi Edward, I used up all the 87 octane gas in the tank and refilled it with 91 octane and then loaded the v2 ROM.

Wow, what a difference. The car feels much stronger throughout the RPM range. I took some logs and then loaded the v2dbw ROM. Even better! When applying medium pressure to the throttle from around 1500 RPM the transmission downshifts smoothly and holds the gear much more predictably. Also when applying full throttle at highway speeds (5th gear) the downshift is less violent.

You also got rid of the throttle sensitivity a low speed / light throttle. It's much easier now to control the car in 1st gear off-road situations.Â
http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/3246186-post12.html
I have a 2013 3.6R Limited, it's my first automatic in almost 20 years. I love the car but not so much the transmission. I Lots of power from the engine but when combined with the lag from the drive-by-wire throttle and the hard shifting trans (under load) it's been making me miss my stick shift. I've been reading about ECU programming and was curious when I saw this thread. After some additional research and reading the testimonials about Edward at XtremeRaceTuning.com I decided to take the plunge and reflash my ECU.

I must say Edward is a professional and a pleasure to work with. We're currently on version 3 of the ECU ROM and I'm very happy with the results. The throttle lag is gone and the car feels much stronger throughout the RPM range. When applying medium pressure to the throttle from around 1500 RPM the transmission downshifts smoothly and holds the gear much more predictably. Also when applying full throttle at highway speeds (5th gear) the downshift is now less violent. In tuning the engine timing to get the most performance out of the stock engine it's been necessary to switch to 91 octane but that's a small price to be for all the extra fun I'm getting out of the car.

ECU tuning isn't for everyone, it's not a 15 minute process and requires some dedication to the testing process to get the settings just right. But Edward is patient and experienced with Subarus and in my opinion definitely someone you want to work with if you're going to do this.

I'm in the final phases of tuning with Edward of XtremeRacingTuning.com for my 2013 Legacy 3.6R. I have not posted in many years (previously owned 2005 SWP Legacy GT Wagon, 5spd, black interior - a unicorn...) but wanted to thank Edward for his work and encourage others to tune with him.

I had both the engine and transmission tuned after reading many reviews of improved performance. Decided having both done was best approach. The only mod to car, is high flow air filter and suspension, wheels/tires.

I'm very pleased with the results and surprised at how much better the car feels. The dyno testing may show a 20+ horsepower gain but what I feel is more power, general smoothness and a sense of refinement. The transmission shifts cleanly, up and down, and manual mode is now fun instead of being an irritant due to hesitation. Acceleration is much stronger and seems to build all the way to redline. The car is greatly improved...

Edward is great to work with and helped me through some initial fumbling with the software. After that it was quite easy to re-flash and log data.

So, very happy with the tuning and highly recommend Edward.
